Grace Whitney, daughter of David and Flora Ann (McLauchlin) Whitney, was born in Detroit, Oct. 22,1862. She attended Detroit Public Schools, The Liggett School, and Hellmuth College in London, Ont. In 1880 she married John E. Evans, and they had a daughter born in 1888. Evans died in 1892. In 1893 Mrs. Evans became the first president of the Detroit Y.W.C.A.
